CROWNS AND BRIDGES
Crowns are a custom-made tooth shaped cap which fits over the prepared existing tooth. Dental crowns can be used for strength, durability and tooth stability, or for cosmetic reasons to enhance the appearance of a tooth.
When Might You Need a Dental Crown?
Cover a broken or decayed tooth when too much of the original tooth is missing to hold a filling.
Improve the appearance of badly shaped or discoloured teeth.
Protect a weak tooth from breaking.
Restore a tooth following root canal treatment.
There are many different types of dental crowns available, and the best option will often depend on achieving a balance between strength and aesthetics.
Speak to Dr Jae so that he can help you decide which is best for you.
A dental bridge is a fixed dental prosthesis to replace a missing tooth or several missing teeth.
The neighbouring tooth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutment.
Benefits of Getting a Bridge
Prevent shifting and rotation of teeth into the empty spaces, resulting in misalignment and increased risk of gum disease and decay.
Give teeth back their natural look and feel without an unsightly gap
As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for a bridge. Dr Jae can help you decide on which is best for you, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost.
