FILLINGS

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. At Victoria Point Family Dental, we only use tooth-coloured fillings, also known as composite or glass ionomer fillings.

We don't use amalgam filling materials at our practice.

What Steps are Involved?

  1. Numb the area - We will discuss with you prior to starting whether you require anaesthesia. We will apply topical anaesthetic cream and then numb the tooth and the surrounding gums with local anaesthetic. This ensures the procedure is as painless as possible.

  2. Remove the decay - The space will be prepared for the filling by cleaning and removing the decayed and damaged area.

  3. Place the filling - We will close off the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.

  4. Make final adjustments - We will shape the filling material to the desired result, trim off any excess material and polish the final restoration.

It usually takes a couple of hours for the numbness to wear off, so you may want to avoid eating or drinking anything until then.
